Colored Tresses Losing Their Glow_ Not Anymore!

Who doesn’t love beautifully coloured hair? Whether it’s subtle highlights, streaks, or an outright blue, red, purple, pink or green, almost every girl these days has dabbled with hair color at one point of time or the other. But as a wise man once said, “With great colour comes great responsibility” (Okay, okay, we’re taking liberties with the quote here),  but there’s no denying that keeping treated hair healthy and glorious is quite a task. The chemicals in even the best of hair dyes can leave your hair damaged, frizzy, dry, or just falling right off your head. However, with the right hair care routine, there’s no reason why you cannot flaunt the perfect mane without any trouble at all!

Hydration is Key, Ladies!

To some of us, hair colour may be the everything in sugar, spice and everything nice, but even the most hardcore fan of coloring hair will grudgingly admit that there’s nothing more drying that treating your hair. The chemicals present in the colours strip your hair of their natural oils, so after a colour job, it’s imperative you do everything to hydrate those locks.

Start by throwing away that sulfate shampoo you’ve used all your life. Sulfate is used to create lather, but it also dries out your hair excessively. Instead, opt for a natural and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Washing your hair with hot water is a big no-no. Hot water opens up the cuticles of your hair, which is great for early on in your bath as it allows the shampoo to cleanse deeply. But if you end your shower with hot water, it leaves your cuticles open, exposed and susceptible to losing their natural oils. So, end your shower with a blast of cold water for the dual benefits of closing your cuticles and also giving your hair a great shine.

Pro tip: While, these tips are effective and must-follows, sometimes you just need to go that extra mile for those Rapunzel tresses. Here at Skin Alive, our most magical way of hydrating hair is through our Nourishing Ritual, a wondrous course of treatment that provides intense nourishment to your hair, leaving it soft, smooth, hydrated, and with a sublime orange-blossom scent.

The Ultimate Protection Against Enemies

To keep your colour vibrant for as long as possible, you must protect it from certain things that have a tendency of leaving hair colour faded and dull-hued. One of these things is Chlorine. But don’t worry, there’s no need to scramble out of the swimming pool yet. There are some ways you can protect your hair from the chlorine, while continuing to enjoy your favorite sport. Read on …

Start by wearing a swimming cap to the pool. But since that doesn’t always do the trick, here’s another tip. Before stepping out of the changing room, duck into the shower and get your hair wet. Then, coat it with a light dose of conditioner and step out without rinsing it off. Voila! No amount of chlorine can hurt you now. Once you’re done swimming, just give your hair a quick rinse and you’re good to go.

Another damager is the sun, nature’s biggest bleacher hanging right on top of our heads! The sun’s rays do a quick job of leeching the vibrancy of your hair colour. Not just that, repeated exposure can also leave you with damaged, brittle, and dry locks. To protect from this,  wear a scarf on those intensely sunny days or channel Kendall Jenner with a tennis cap. Both work to keep you looking stylish while delaying a touch-up session at the salon!

Pro tip: Give your hair the occasional dose of our version of a booster shot ie the Okara Colour Protect Ritual. It features a blend of Hamamelis and Soyabean extracts that act to preserve and enhance the hair colour while also repairing any damage it may have sustained. This treatment is our favourite way of amplifying the longevity of the colour while also giving your hair the softness and shine it deserves.

To all our those ladies who’re rocking coloured hair, let nothing come between you and the colourful tresses you adore. Arm yourself with these tips and be closer than ever to your mission of proving to the world that girls with brightly hewn locks really do have all the fun!
